Introducing the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 R/T


Chrysler debuted its all-new performance-oriented 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 R/T model recently, promising the short-box, two-wheel-drive hauler with a 390-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 would go from zero to 60 in just under 6 seconds. Instead of a supercharger, the 5-speed AutoStick Ram R/T uses a “loose” torque converter for its strong off-the-line performance, delivering the Hemi’s peak 407 pounds-feet of torque to the rear wheels faster than a standard torque converter. A torque converter is a critical powertrain component that connects an automatic transmission to the engine. The torque converter enables the vehicle to stop without stalling the motor, which is what would happen if you took your foot off the clutch without placing a truck with a manual transmission into neutral at a stoplight.

Dodge Dakota MX Warrior Concept


The Dodge Dakota MX Warrior is a design exercise for the younger action-sports crowd. This authentic motocross-themed concept is a cooperative effort with Scott Waraniak. To give the Dodge Dakota MX Warrior a proper stance and prove it can venture off-road, the suspension is raised 4 inches. It's fitted with 20-in. chrome wheels from Mopar wrapped in 31-in. tires. TRX-4 fender flares cover the meats to keep the "splash" graphics fairly clean. There are also custom steel rock rails. The taillamps and bed extender were provided by Mopar. The Surf Blue paint with dark neutral metallic accents is courtesy of the Chrysler paint shop. Air is fed to the 4.7-liter Magnum V-8 engine through the custom hood with one-off intake scoops fabricated by the Chrysler plastic shop.

All-New 2009 Dodge Ram



When it goes on sale late this summer, there should be 4 revised engine choices. The base 215-hp/235 lb-ft 3.7-liter V6 will be replaced with the 260 hp/265 lb-ft 4.0-liter V6 used in the Dodge Nitro. The Ram's 4.7-liter V8 will get the same makeover as in the Dodge Dakota, boosting power to 300 hp/330 lb-ft, and the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 will get a bump in power. The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram is offered in regular cab, Quad cab and crew cab, with three box lengths: 8-foot (regular cab), 6-foot-4-inches (regular cab and Quad cab), and a new-for-2009 box length of 5-foot-7-inches (crew cab). Five trim levels are available, each with a unique appearance: ST, SLT, TRX,Sport, and the top of the line Laramie. The new Ram goes on sale late this summer as a 2009 model. Pricing should remain similar, starting in the low $20,000s and stretching well past $40,000 for a loaded Hemi crew cab.

All-New 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4



According to Dodge, four numbers are important when contemplating the significance of the Caliber SRT-4: 85, 125, 300 and 260. Eighty-five represents how much more horsepower the Caliber SRT-4 has than the Neon SRT-4 it replaces, which means it produces 125 hp per liter of displacement with a total output of 300 horsepower. The final number is 260, as in 260 lb-ft of tire-smoking, push-back-in-your-seat torque. Umm...wow. Just wow.

Dodge Launches Special-Edition Resistol Edition Ram HD



Dodge has partnered with cowboy hat maker Resistol to release the biggest and fanciest Ram ever offered - the 2008 Resistol Edition Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie Mega Cab (say that five times fast). The special edition truck comes with a two-tone color scheme (dark and light khaki metallic), special badges everywhere, and stainless steel tubular sidesteps. Available in 2WD or 4WD, the Resistol Ram dualie is propelled by a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine mated to a 6-speed transmission that produces 350 horsepower and a stump-pulling 650 pound-feet of torque.

Freaking HUGE - Dodge Ram BFT Concept



Designer Scott Krugger knew his SEMA concept was big, but the reality of its size didn't hit him until he parked the Ram BFT next to a run-of-the-mill Ram 1500. Freakin' huge is, in contrast to the BFT itself, an understatement. In fact, we'd guess a profane version of the same statement could be inspiration for its name although Chrysler reps claim the BFT moniker represents "built for towing." So is this a look into the Ram's future? Perhaps. The next generation Ram may not be as big as the BFT, but color us not surprised should we see a 10-foot box out back.

Dodge ZEO Concept: RWD, Zero-Emissions Sport Wagon



The 2008 Dodge ZEO - Zero Emissions Operation - concept vehicle is a four-passenger, all-electric, "2+2" sport wagon that embraces the bold, emotional characteristic of the Dodge brand. The advanced propulsion system powered by the Dodge ZEO concept is electric-only with a 64 kilowatt-hour lithium battery pack capable of at least 250 miles. Unlike other such vehicles, ZEO is a four-door, four-passenger vehicle that delivers function as well as environmental responsibility. Resting in a rear-wheel drive layout, Dodge ZEO's 268 horsepower single-electric motor enables the vehicle to sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than six seconds. Other details include "scissor" doors, front and rear lamps treated as separate sculptural forms, and the "ZEO Orange" and dark silver exterior.
